Christmas shopping!?

I am going christmas shopping and I have no money or ideas. I am kinda good at picking out what they like but its pretty hard to shop when you have $8 for your 2 sisters 1 mom 1 dad and 1 stepdad and everytime I find something I want too. if you have any ideas for family members or how I can make lots of money in less then a month please respond.

Christmas shopping!?
Why don't you give them homemade gift certificates? For the adults you can give them a coupon for a hour's worth of babysitting, or doing extra chores or something. For younger sisters you can offer to teach them how to do something that you're good at.
Reply:try getting a job as Santa's helper as this isn't a hard job and it can be fun.
Reply:if you get an allowance, budget it so that you could save enough till you get your desired amount
Reply:Try to find dog or baby sitting jobs. I don't know how old you are, but if you know people that have dogs or pets offer to sit them while they run errands, etc. You can also start a dog walking business and let your neighbors/friends know you're raising money for getting your family Christmas presents. You can also make them stuff that you think they would enjoy and always put yourself last. Buy yourself something once you are finished getting everyone else something. Good luck:)

????????????is shopping dirt cheap in new york im thinking of going over?????????????
Shopping isn't cheap in NYC it's cheaper in New Jersey.
Reply:No. I bought a digital camera there, believing it to be cheaper than in the UK. I had to fight off a real hard-sell for all sorts of accessories I didn't want. Very unpleasant. Then I got home and found better cameras for a similar price.
Reply:I've lived in NYC all my life and shopped nearly everywhere, so I can tell you now that barely anything here can be considered "dirt cheap," unless there is an incredible clearance OR you are shopping at thrift stores, Conway, etc. Shopping in NYC, depending on where you go, can get pretty pricey!
Reply:it depends on which shops you go into. sometimes they are the same price as what you would get in london. you just have to be a bit wise.
Reply:no, it's expensive as hell. Why would you think it's cheap?
Reply:Right now our US dollar is in the toilet. For wedding shopping in the city check out Kleinfelds http://www.kleinfeldbridal.com/

Reply:Yes it IS!!! Its £2 to the dollar at the moment and also there is a GREAT department store called Century 21. My husband and I had to buy two extra suitcases to bring all our stuff back. Trust me if you get your stuff from there its really cheap - its like our TK Maxx but better full of designer and label stuff at cheap prices. I would say Maces and all those places are expensive you need to know where to go. Century 21 is directly opposite ground zero. Go to NY have a great time and HAPPY SHOPPING!!!!!!

Vegetarian shopping list?

I'm going grocery shopping.I'm kind of need of a shopping list and maybe easy some recipes to help me get started.I was wondering could give me a complete list of Fruits, Vegetables, Nuts, and other products I need. Thanks

Vegetarian shopping list?
I'd suggest:

- Whole grain pastas (make sure it's 100% whole grain)

- Whole grain organic bread (make sure it doesn't have "corn syrup" in the ingredient's list - I highly reccomend Ezekiel 4:9 Sprouted Grain bread - it should be in the freezer section of most large-scale grocery stores like Albertson's or Whole Foods or right on the shelf at Trader Joe's)

- fresh bananas, apples, mangoes, whatever fruit you like

- fresh broccoli, cauliflower, bell peppers

- onions, mushrooms, garlic

- frozen vegetable mixes - good for soup and stir-fry

- frozen fruit - good to add to smoothies or oatmeal

- a few trays of tofu

- tempeh, if available

- Almonds and walnuts

- Soy milk, almond milk or rice milk (enriched if possible)

- Spices and sauces! (Stir fry sauce, soy sauce, peanut satay sauce, all sorts of spices, it'll be useful in making food flavorful!)

- Dressings (whatever ones you like)

- Brown rice

- And, if you are not vegan, cheese, milk or eggs?

I would encourage watching http://www.theppk.com They have recipes, cooking shows online, etc. It's vegetarian cooking and it's absolutely wonderful.
Reply:Hi! Some great recipes can be found: Cookinglight.com, allrecipes.com, epicurious.com, foodnetwork.com ! Fruits and veggies are SO good for you, you should buy: strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, apples and kiwi! lots of antioxidants and health benefits. some good veggies are baby spinach, squash, tomatoes, broccoli, sweet potatoes, zuchini! You can buy your veggies frozen or fresh. Also, try making fruit smoothies with fresh fruit, yogurt and OJ! If you are a vegetarian, try boca burgers original vegan, they rock.

Shoe shopping in the warehouse district of LA, is anyone familiar with this place or anyother place like this?

shoe shopping with shops that allow you to haggle

Shoe shopping in the warehouse district of LA, is anyone familiar with this place or anyother place like this?
Yes, there is the garment district. You can take tour buses that take you down there. It's a bit over-rated, IMO. And I HATE downtown L.A. Go to www.downtownnews.com. That will give you a list of all the available forms of transportation to downtown LA.

Porn shopping?

have you ever shopped for porn movies and if you have what are the inside of the stores like? Also what are the people like that are in the store shopping?

Porn shopping?
They are regular people like me and you, a lot are couples not same sex but heterosexual. people just looking to spice up their love lives. the store is a regular store like a fye's or something except it's all porn and some toys, but nothing out of the ordinary, nothing magical.
Reply:SICKO! PERV! what kind of envoyment do you find out of watching this crpa
Reply:There's a porn store on the college campus so it's cool, it's mostly students working there (art students) really friendly. The girl answered all my questions. They had the latest movies playing on tvs, clothing racks, walls of 'stuff', and people offering help. There were couples there holding hands browsing the stuff, it was big and bright. Most porn stores seem real dirty and shady though. Don't go alone. I went with my friends and in the daytime.
Reply:I usually buy my movies out of catalogues but i have been into these stores they are just everyday people like you and I.

there are lots of interesting stuff in there too.
Reply:Like pinky said some of the people are really creepy but a lot of them are just everyday people that are often times embarrassed to even be seen in there.

It's healthy though as long as your not living there or hoping to pick up some crack ho.

Do be aware though that it sometimes also a hang out for some of the gay or bi crowd.

No offense meant but it is a fact.
Reply:They are wierd and creapy and you should stay away from porn. It makes a beautiful thing ugly.
Reply:the neat and organized, you know what's inside so you shouldn't be surprise by anything you see.
Reply:You shouldn't be scared of the adult movie store.

But if I were looking to buy any, I would avoid the ones with the preview booths.
Reply:Yeah. I have. Uhm...the inside of the porn shop's are pretty normal. All different kinds of people, all different kinds of ages. It's fun I think. The people are cool inside...this one time when I was 18 I remember this old gross mexican followed me and my girlfriends out of the store and followed us around town it was scary. We survived.
Reply:Like.. at a sex store? They're surprisingly really courteous and helpful, but maybe that's cause I'm a girl. I dunno about porn.. but I buy toys for my friends.. easiest ever birthday present.
Reply:Well, in movie places, like Blockbuster or some such place, there is a separate room for porns, and it is usually empty, every so often you will see someone, but they will barely notice you since it's "taboo" to be seen shopping for porn. I imagine it the same at adult stores too.
Reply:they are creepers
Reply:the people are normal... most of the time... its the same people you are grocery shopping with... my husband and i love sex shops and watching movies sometimes but were both very respectable people with jobs and kids. we just enjoy sex and theres nothing wrong with that.
Reply:The people are really creepy.
Reply:everythings ok normal just chill

!
Reply:When stationed in Germany, I went to lots of these stores. Just be chill about it and not be a spaz while you are in there. Don't be suprised if the cashier doesn't want to touch your hands when the money is being exchanged. (for obvious reasons).

Grocery Shopping Advise?

I have 4 kids and a wife. We spend $400 a week on groceries. One family member does Atkins and one does Weight Watchers and the rest eat pretty much what they want. We cut coupons which only results in us saving about $6 to $10 a week. I would like to take $1000 of this $1600 to $2000 a month that we spend on food and invest in a mutual fund or something. I don't want investment advise, I want shopping advise. My parents live in Michigan. When we shop there in a grocery store, I can take each item and place it on the belt and count 2,4,6,8.... and the total I come up with will be roughly my grocery total. In other words, the average price of a grocery item is $2. In Delaware, where I live, I have to use 5,10,15,20... to get the same estimated total. Moving is not an option. We've tried the Save-A-Lot stores and they sell mostly junk food and that is hard to do with the diets. We've tried BJs but the bigger items just mean the two boys not on diets, just eat more. Any ideas?

Grocery Shopping Advise?
The truth is this is something girls learn in home economics class. Things like eye level is pricey. Look low on the shelves to get bargains. Never shop hungry. 50% off is the same as 2 for one.

May I suggest stone soup:

1 gallon of water

1 tsp of salt

2 potatoes

2 carrots

1 clove of garlic chopped

1/2 head of cabbage

1 can of italian stewed tomatoes

1 lb of browned italian sausage

1/2 onion diced and cooked with the sausage

1 tsp basil

2 Pepperoncini

You may need to double the recipe for your size of family.

Eat it three meals a day for a week. It's an inexpensive meal that tastes great and is good for you. The difference between what you would normally spend and the cost of the soup goes into the mutual fund. Since the whole family sacrificed you should all benefit so make sure the fund is in everybody's name.
Reply:To eat one soup and save bucks sounds ideal, but all the answers from other users seem to work for me! Thanks.

Also, you can try to search Yahoo!Answers for some keywords like "grocery tips" or "grocery saving," and you will find more wisdom talk from others. Report It

Reply:Try find a place that sells in BULK!!!

Buying in bulk might cost alot AT THE TIME, but it will save u in the long run
Reply:$400 doesn't seem that much for a family of six.

Approach this from the other direction.

Draw up a budget, detailing all your outgoings for a month. I mean absolutely everything. From that you may be able to cut costs.

On the shopping front, draw up a detailed list of things to buy every week, and another for things you buy less often, and stick to those lists. Chop out all the stuff that you don't need. This means fizzy drinks, cakes, biscuits, etc. Where possible, buy in bulk (loo rolls, washing powder, cleaning materials, dried goods, Tinned stuff, etc), and always shop around for the best price, rather than go to the same place for everything.
Reply:I definitely agree with the simple hint of don't go shopping hungry. Go on a full stomach.

Lateley I've been going to this all recipes website, and learning some more easy, and tastey home-cooked meals, and I had this incredible experience while shopping at cost-co yesterday. I was perusing all of the dinners in one box items (which I usually buy a lot of) and I was thinking to myself, no, I could make that by myself, and it would probably taste better. I didn't buy any, and it was such a liberating feeling!

Diets can also be very expensive, especially with different family members on different diets, I bet that makes meal planning a bit of a pain. Is there anyway those two could at least get on the same diet?
Reply:Prefabricated food are soooooooooooo expensive. Do you cook homemade items ??

$400 a week sounds outrageous to me. I spend under that for a month for a family of 4 plus 5 pets. I am super frugal and know how to make a chicken last a whole week.

Always go with a list. Make that list out by having a calender at home with your menu planned out for a month. Figure what you will need to make these meals and check the cupboards to not double up in case you already have that certain ingredient! When shopping you can certainly go for more generic brands..of course some generic brands are horrible but most are sooooooooo close to the top brands and can save you alot of money. Don't be so picky !!! Kids won't know if you keep your mouth shut.

Lay off junk food and snacks for the kids unless fruit. Believe it or not a bag of fruit costs the same as a bag of chips and are 1000 times more healthy for your kids !!! Any thing prefabricated can save you alot of money if you ELIMINATE IT !!

I could go on and on... but then you will have a book to read here. I have taken clients shopping with a clipboard in hand and showed them how to shop but first had them show ME how THEY shop.... they saved an average of over a $100 on just one trip with me,

I am "Super cheap shopper woman" hear me roar !!!!

mew !

Good Luck and DON'T give up !!!!!!
Reply:Buy in bulk, shop right after you eat, make a budget for the purchase and don't exceed it. Exercise with the dieters, purchase an entertainment book (which has discounts on supermarket purchases).
Reply:grow your own fruits and vegetables. you might be suprised on how your kids respond. the taste of fresh produce is astounding.

you might even be able to cut cost on the sweets...

it is not very difficult. you don't know until you try it.
Reply:go shopping for groceries alone, and don't go on an empty stomach.
Reply:You have a big family so you'll have big bills. The best thing you can do is learn to buy in bulk and cook creatively. For example, when I make meatloaf, I add a can of black beans (rinsed). It adds fiber, flavor and extends the meat for little price.

Use a crock pot so you can get cheaper cuts of meat. Learn to make soup out of the leftovers. Get creative. For about $15 I can make 3 different meals out of almost the same thing. I get a whole chicken and roast it with veggies and have that for dinner. Then I cut off the extra meat and use 1/2 to make BBQ chicken sandwiches and reserve half for chicken soup. Use the whole carcas and all the veggies to make a nice chicken stock that you can add rice/noodles to, along with veggies and the rest of the chicken to make great soup.

Plan your menu in advance based on what's on sale that week. Typically the coupons correspond to the store sales so you can get double off. Take your menu and make a shopping list. Only buy what's on that list. If something that is a staple (canned tomatoes, paper towels, etc.) is on sale cheap, stock up then so the next time you need it you'll have it on hand.

For those who are on picky diets, if they were eating balanced, healty meals, they wouldn't have to be on a trendy diet.

Check at the book store to find cook books that offer great ways to stretch meals and get creative with the basics.

You can do it but it will take some effort and creativity.

Good luck!
Reply:Good question!

I buy off-brands and generics whenever possible.

Wal-Mart wil honor other stores flyers. For instance, if Marsh Supermarket has a sale on coffee, Wal-mart will sell it to you for that price. I don't have time to run around to 3 different stores to pick up one item.

I love the Dollar Stretcher website. It has excellent thrifty tips to help save money. www.stretcher.com

The way I grew up, we had a large garden. Almost everything we ate, we grew. We were very healthy %26amp; had the satisfaction of knowing it was organic and healthy.

I have a very small yard now and planted potatoes, onions and tomatoes as well as fruit bushes. It didn't take much time and we have enjoyed many meals with these ingredients. Vegetables are SO easy to grow. They are extremely healthy and low fat.

We buy our meat at a local butcher shop. We purchase a quarter of a cow. Purchasing meat this way is much, much cheaper than buying it by the pound at the supermarket. If you have a meat market close by, check into it. Our chest freezer is full of beef steaks and roasts for the price you pay for a week worth of groceries.
Reply:1. Join a wholesale store like Costco or Sam's.

2. Always go with a shopping list and stick to the list--no deviating for impulse items.

3. Many grocery stores advertise weekly specials and/or double coupon days. Shop at those times to maximize your savings.

4. Involve the boys. Make them shop with you and bring a calculator and scratch pad to keep track of the total. Make them aware that every extra dollar spent at the grocery store is one less dollar available for entertainment, etc.
Reply:Hey Bernie, to cut down expenses, instead of spending money on expensive diet supplements, why dont you just do exercise with your family members.

Also, before you go to the grocery make sure that you have your shopping list with a approximate price listed, those are not important must not include in the list. Bring only enough money to spend based on your shopping list. I think that way, you will avoid buying on things that are not useful.

Hope it helps!
