Reply:The gift cards only apply to that store(when you purchase that card from there). If you are feeling unsafe about your credit card....use a gift card . Having a bank issued credit card is best bet when online shopping.......Use Yahoo Wallet or PayPal in addition. You would have to look for stores that only use these two payment methods though. Many online store are converting their websites to use PayPal as a security device.
Reply:Yes, you can use either or. If you have to use a credit card, do not worry - any reputable store is going to have a secure connection: your details will be safe. If you shop online, make sure to sign up to get free rebates and cash back. Check out http://www.myshoppingrebates.com/ to see how.
Reply:Yes, you can use the visa gift card online as you would use a Visa credit card but there are additional steps you have to take.

The issue with using Visa (or any other Bank Issued) gift card online is that there is no verifiable address associated with the card. When buying things online, most merchants want your billing address to match the address on the card you are using.

To be able to use the gift card online, Visa recommends that you go online to register your gift card with the merchant/financial institution that issued it and add your name and address to the card so that when you use it online, the card will match the name and address you provided for billing.

So, once you have registered your card with them, you can use it online just like you would use a Visa credit card.

However, there are some online merchants that will accept a Visa credit card but will not accept a Visa gift card used as a credit card. So, if you have registered your gift card with Visa and it is rejected online, then it means the merchant does not accept Visa gift card used as a credit card. Most online merchants will not tell you this and you only find out when your Visa gift card is rejected.

All the above also applies to Mastercard or Amex gift cards. I just used Visa as an example.
