Internet shopping help... !!!?

hi everyone have you done shopping through internet by your c.c is internet shopping safe u know providing confidential info.over net...?can any website be trusted?thanks in advance.cheers..!!

Internet shopping help... !!!?
Studies have been done and say it's as safe as shopping in a store...

However, there are good stores and bad stores in the street .. so the same will be true on line.

The main thing to do is try to stick with reputable shops.. like amazon, best buy, etc...

Also, you want to make sure that ANY transaction you do online is going over a secured internet channel.. meaning that it is httpS (not just http) in the address bar... and there should be an icon on your browser that shows up that looks like a padlock to also let you know it's a secure connection... you can click on the lock and get the security certificate information too... I realize you may not know what I am talking about and I say it in the hopes you will google this until it makes sense as it is quite important and too hard to explain in this short page...

the basic idea though is that SSL (https) is a tunnelled communication that is encrypted.. so noone can see the content of your transaction if they were sniffing the data on the line (like sitting in the middle listening in)... makes a little sense?

All data you send over the internet is sent in CLEAR TEXT unless it is using a secure SSL / encrypted protocol.... even your emails...

NEXT... you also have to consider who you are giving your credit card information to and what security precautions they take on their backend... meaning are their servers secure from hackers? are their employees trustworthy and do they have controls in place to ensure some upset employee cannot take your data?

Most likely a large site like an amazon or an ebay (who were hacked long ago, yes, both of them) have learned their lessons and can afford to take the security precautions to protect their own servers and the databases that store your information. Most people don't think about this when doing business on line.

Also, make sure you are securing your own computer as much as possible so that you are not vulnerable to spyware and viruses that may steal your information...

I always recommend that people have windows updates automatically downloading the security patches...

I also always recommend using antivirus / firewall / antispyware from a RELIABLE vendor (like a mcafee, norton, etc) and making sure your subscription is up to date so you are automatically downloading security updates and that you have taken the time to properly configure the program.. AND that you've taken the time to learn how to deal with the program when it alerts you.

This and good browsing habits, basic computer maintenance, and security awareness.. will keep you safe (as safe as can be) ... that was probably more than you wanted but I think your question deserves a complete answer.

Good Luck
Reply:You need to make sure that the web page that requests personal and credit card information is a https:// page (the "s" at the end is for secure) as opposed to the typical http:// page. You see this in the address line at the top of your browser. (Internet Explorer or Firefox, for example)

You also do not want to save your personal data on your own PC as if you are hacked it will be available. Often you are prompted to save or not save your information. You should choose not to.

Some people wisely use a credit card with a very low credit limit on it for internet purchases in case it's phished (stolen electronically). That way the most someone can run up on it is the low credit max.

I think transmitting cc info via cell phone is just as risky as the internet, as cell phone transmissions can be intercepted too. What about giving your card to a restaurant patron who walks away with it and returns it with your bill? There are lots of ways to steal credit card info. I've been using mine on the internet for over 10 years and have never had an issue.
Reply:For you trust a site you have look at a few things

1. See if they use 'SSL'. It is lock icon that appears on the bottom right. Beside the globe in IE.

2. See if they have verisign, or paypal or anyother trusted payment options

3.If you can call the people who are going to sell you the stuff nothing like it...

4. But if you can avoid it ..thats the best!!!
Reply:yeah,its safe! ebay.com is good
Reply:yes it is safe , I never had any problems
Reply:Yes. I shop on the internet frequently. However, I only use the big boys! i.e. QVC; Amazon.com; Overstocked.com; - like I said the bigs! I would not trust my cc to smaller companies.
