Shopping for a family of 4...?

My other half reckons that we can survive on £60 per week. In fact when I asked for some money to pop to the shop to get tea bags he says ..." What did you spend all that £60 on?". We've got 2 kids ... one is 9 years old boy (and energetic %26amp; hungry all the time!) - the other is a baby (so, nappies, wipes, baby milk etc.. to consider).

Can I ask you guys out there how much you spend on shopping a week? Especially if you have a family like mine.

Many thanks.

Shopping for a family of 4...?
We spend approximately 150 pounds a week on shopping for food, and the toiletries, yes, around 150 pounds on the lot in one big shop, there are three adults here.

But we eat mainly food we just have to pop in oven from Icelands (not ready made meals ) But like chicken kiev and whatever, but you can get two chicken kievs for a pound in Icelands. So Icelands not badly priced as some supermarkets. We do buy BOGOF's too, especially on thier chocolate icecream cakes...yummy...

When one has a baby, nappys are around 5 pound now, and that is what three or four times a week, then there is their cream, and the wipes, and their foodstuff, and special baby juice!

Wow, I don't know how you are doing it all on 60 quid!

Also before we even think about food, you need washing up liquid, washing powder for clothes, etcetera, disenfectant, bleach , loo paper, and naturally shampoo and soap at the very least. This in itself would eat a giant hole out of the 60 quid!

I think Hubby is living in the 1960's or pre war........when it comes to money...and what about you? you should have money to buy yourself something nice now and then....

Tell your Hubby you cannot do this on 60 quid, show him all the answers you have (only if they are like this one....lol) ((no M.C.P....:-) ) and ask him to show you how to do the same, (this will make him think he is clever, if you say 'please show me I am so silly......Not!

And watch him fall on his backside trying!

What is he doing with all the rest of the wages?

Spending it on the car?

Send him shopping he is living regarding money, before decimalization.

good luck.
Reply:We are a family of four.

I have a son aged 10 and a daughter aged 9. My shopping is between £100 to £130 per week.

Granted we have dogs, for which we spend probably £15 per week but that still leaves much more than £60 per week for food!!!! Your partner is not being reasonable in my opinion. Ask him to go and do the shopping so maybe then he will see for himself how much things cost!!!
Reply:100-120 pounds a week for a family of 4 sometimes more, my god how on earth are you managing, let him do the shopping and see how he gets on
Reply:Wy don't you send him to do the shopping one day - then he'll soon realise how much everything costs!!

I spend about that (about £250 per month) just for me and my b/f.
Reply:be attention please ,,, the life is family and persons shares together in one home ,, dont ask how much should be spend per week ..but ask yourself how much i need save to give these babies all they need ,,,

Reply:I spend about £75 a week (me and three children and rabbit!)
Reply:I don't cut corners when it comes to feeding my kids and I have no respect for a man that would expect me to do that or do something like that himself. He'd find out I have no problems feeding my kids and I sure as hell would leave his plate empty and him and those cats could find a way to hunt for their own food.
Reply:my god only $60 per week not inf for a family of 4 especially you have a young boy need food all the time and the other one baby need his milk and his nappies etc .....at least $100 and it is not inf either
Reply:give him the sixty dollars and have him go shopping.when he brings back change ,put it in an envelope and show him where it is.through the week when you need something ,get it and put the reciet in the envelope.everyday show it to him.this should show him where it goes.ive been there with a baby and one 5 yrs older and 60 will get you nothing.i was lucky to get by on 100.since your at home everyday anyway have you thought about baby sitting, its pretty good money.if your husband isnt willing to give you more then tell him you will need to baby sit or go back to work and child care for your two will be more than 60.
Reply:There are 3 of us at home at the moment (me, hubby and son aged 10) and I spend about £150 per week on shopping (also add in food for 4 cats who think my sole purpose in life is to feed them, and fish food for about 30 koi carp). I only buy fresh veg/fruit and meat, and bulk buy stuff such as loo roll/washing powder coffee etc whenever there is a BOGOF offer.

I can't see how you are managing on £60 per week, especially given the price of nappies/baby milk - and knowing the appetite of young lads! Maybe you should get him to come shopping with you, or better still go by himself and then he would realise just how unrealistic £60 is.
Reply:My cat and I cost about £25.00pw to feed but this includes very little meat as I mainly live off of road kill and beasts that I shoot.

If shopping in a supermarket, you could spend nearly £60.00pw on just fruit and fresh vegetables for a family of four. Time for an increase in house keeping or your family will be forced to live on a very unhealthy diet.
