Do many US towns have main shopping streets? Or does their shopping facilities tend to be based mainly around the malls? In the UK, there are quite a few large shopping centres/malls, but they're all ethier out of town, or have been built in the centre of down, but they still have an original main shopping street.
High streets/pedestrianised shopping streets in the US?
Downtown Crossing in Boston.
Reply:There are a few pedestrian malls in the U.S.. They are almost always in larger cities (as opposed to finding them in small towns). Many cities have them. For example, a city near where I live has a large area with shops and art galleries that is closed off to car traffic.
Reply:I don't know about main shopping streets, but there are quite a few outdoor shopping areas in Los Angeles, California. The first one that comes to mind in the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica. There are of course tons of shopping malls as well, more of those than shopping streets. Or north of LA, in Santa Barbara, there was lots of shopping concentrated around State Street in the Downtown area, and not really any malls.
