Feel weird shopping at cool stores?

I went to the mall the other day to get some new clothes, and it felt really weird. I am sort of overweight, and I went to shop at the stores that some of my friends shop at, and I sort of felt unwelcome, like I shouldn't be shopping there. All of these skinny girls were coming in and out of the stores.. and I don't know. Don't get me wrong, they had my size and everything, but it just felt like I shouldn't be there.

Feel weird shopping at cool stores?
I am a size 0, and I feel like everyone is laughing at *me* in the store, so I dont think its your weight, its just being female. We are a catty breed and girls will find something to mock about you no matter how perfect you are, so dont sweat it. Think a sales girl is talking about you? Well so what. She is there to help you, so politely remind her of that by running her butt off. Give her a reason to complain. He he.
Reply:Wow, I know exactly what you mean. I need to lose a couple vanity pound I think, but I always feel like that too. Like at Abercrombie %26amp; Holister %26amp; AE. Or Coach or something. I feel like I don't fit in but I don't know why. I think we should just let it not get us down or in our way cause it is probably all in our heads. Try to have a good time %26amp; forget about it. Reply:Don't worry, you're not alone. The media influences practically everything about everyday life. So much now that people whose waists are more than 2 inches thick have insecurities about walking into certain stores.





When going into some stores, I get two sizes for one item of clothing to bring into the dressing room, to see which fits best. I always try the smallest size first, because I don't want to wear baggy clothing. At many name-brand stores, the smaller size won't even fit over my head. (Don't ask me... broad shoulders, maybe?) Next goes the bigger size... when I look in the mirror, I think "I like it, but is there a bigger size?" I look at the clothes again, and that's the biggest size there is. (If you haven't figured out yet, I'm referencing Abercrombie, which only goes to a large in most styles.)





Another small store story-- an young adult I know, male, very good looking, maybe mid-20's to very early 30's, was asked to be a model for a store carrying very small sizes. This guy is very muscular, and has barely any fat on him. (Yes, he's gorgeoussss!) This store asked him to lose 30 pounds in order to be a model for their company. Of course, he declined.





My point: many stores make small clothes so that they attract skinny people and skinny models. That's just they're motive. Just like how some stores are made for plus sizes. And if you really like those stores where the stick-thin shop, then I suppose you have to just deal with it. Or... be like me and go to the mall early in the morning to beat the crowds. =)

Reply:I know what you mean. I sometimes feel the same way when I walk into abercrombie and hollister. Like I am just not good enough to be shopping there. But you just have to remember you have rights to shop there, so take advantage, and have confidence in yourself!

Reply:You shouldn't feel bad about shopping somewhere. If anything it is the store's fault for not making you feel welcome as a customer. I stopped shopping at hollister and abercrombie because their clothes are too small anyways. They dont fit normal people. I am not overweight, or even close to it. I am a fit athletic person, and I cannot fit into any of their clothes. It is ridiculous the sizing they use. Their clothes are made for annorexic highschool girls. They are both very vain stores, and eventually they will realize how much business they are losing by discriminating against normally sized people.





All-in-all, you should never let other people think they are better than you just because of the clothes they wear. And you should never feel bad about yourself when you walk into a store.





If people are going to look down on you because you don't wear abercrombie and hollister, then they are the ones with the problem. Don't let it get to you. As you get older, brand name clothes become a thing of the past.





Highschool is so over dramatic.... don't worry about it. Be proud of who you are, and shop anywhere you damn well please. And if any of the people that work there give you dirty looks just tell them "At least I don't have to work here to be able to afford the clothes." that should shut them up.
Reply:It was all in your head. Sure, there may have been a couple superficial nasty girls who may have been sneering at you, but most people don't pay that much attention to other shoppers. And trust me, the store and sales girls don't care if you need to buy a 2, a 12, or a 22. All they care about it making the sale so they get paid.





More than anything though, it's your own low self esteem that makes you so uncomfortable. Because you feel bad about yourself, you think everyone else sees you in the same light. Because you felt out of place among all the "skinny girls," you felt that you weren't welcomed.





Look for your good qualities, find your assets, and focus on the positive. The next time you go out, you won't even notice how big or small others around you are. Which means you won't be comparing yourself to them, and feeling bad in the process.
Reply:I know your same exact pain. I shop with my really skinny friends often and they can fit in to a 0 or even a size 1. I am a lot bigger then that but still fit just fine into these clothes.





Just remember that you will never see those girls again, and if you do, you will look just as good in those clothes as what they are wearing. If you dont like it, do some shopping online. Go into the store maybe to find your exact size and maybe otherwise, do it online. Don't worry what others feel or think about you, you're the one who has to look at yourself at night, not them.
Reply:Oh my god please! I know completely how you feel! Whenever I go into Hollistor or Abercrombie or American Eagle, it seems like people act weird around me. It's like there's a lingering feeling in the room and it's pointed towards you and how unwelcome you are. Yeah, I understand! Whenever I feel like that, I remember that I have the same right as anybody to be there! And then I put on my b!tchiest attitude and act like I own the store, and it works. Yah, it sounds rude and conceited, but at least you feel better! %26lt;3
Reply:just think of it this way, you have enough money to shop there so noone should judge, especially not the people who are working there.. YOU are buying, not them. theyre serving you.
